It was All So Clear…

FSU, then the NFL

Cole aspired to be a professional football player from the young age of 8 years old. “I’m going to get a Division one scholarship to Florida State University, be drafted into the NFL junior year, play a minimum of 10 years, retire and live the rest of my life rich and happy.” It was all so clear. But life had different plans.

He grew up in a Christian household with his parents being evangelists on the road for 17 years into pastoring a church in Jacksonville Florida for 8 years. He was always told by his parents to “follow your dreams”.

Life threw him a curveball he wasn’t able to hit.

Strike One

Instead of getting a Division 1 scholarship, he was forced to go to a junior college in Western Kansas, 24 hours away from his doorstep. After sitting behind an All American linebacker his freshman year, he kept chasing is dream… Until life threw strike two.

Strike Two

COVID-19 took away his spring and fall season leaving him unable to get picked up my any other schools with no chance to continue his life long dream of playing football. He returned home lost and looking for his purpose in his life. Depression, anxiety, and suicide thoughts crept in. Then life threw him strike three.

Strike Three

Not even a year later of his dreams being shattered, His hero, passed away. COVID-19 took away football and took away his father. On August 16th, 2021 Anthony Beckham would leave this earth, and took Cole’s heart with him. Five days later he spoke at his funeral.

The Comeback

But in the face of loss Cole was shown that whatever life may have in store, all things will work together for our good. Cole beckham got his heart for speaking from traveling with his parents all over the United States and in and out of Canada doing school assemblies. Coles passion came from seeing first hand, the impact that his parents made in peoples lives by the power or words and motivation. Cole started his speaking career on stage at his parents church by speaking to the congregation and in his youth group as a youth leader. Cole is now following in the footsteps that were placed by his parents many years before. To shine light on a dark world and call people higher. To have people live like tomorrow is never promised, because at the end of the day… it isn’t.
